Comparing Number the Stars and The Compound

I am comparing Number the Stars and The Compound. The main theme of both books is the struggle. I know this because the author of Number the Stars creates a dramatic mood to keep the readers wanting to keep reading. The author of The Compound starts the book out very dramatic so that it gives the reader a motivation to keep reading.

Next the author of Number the Stars makes the loss of the handkerchief a big deal so it creates a mood of dreadfulness.  The author of The Compound makes the loss of Eddy a big deal because Eddy is Eli’s brother and he gets left out of the compound. This creates a mood of sadness and keeps the reader interested.

After that the author of Number the Stars makes Ellen and Annemarie best friends then separates them to make the story dramatic. The author The Compound makes Eli and Eddy best friends and brothers so that when she separates them it makes the story also very emotional.

Finally Annemarie struggles in Number the Stars to hide Ellen and to get her to Sweden. Eli struggles in The Compound to get his family out of the compound. Number the Stars and The Compound are very similar for their drama and struggles.
